Good Healthy Snacks

We all have those moments when we’ve hit our wall and we’re about to grab that delicious candy bar and coffee to energize our day, but somehow good healthy snacks don’t always come to mind. Bad move! That sugar-filled, nutrition-less snack will send your blood sugar surging only to spike it and crash it hours later. So what are we to do when those cravings take hold?

We’re glad you asked because we have some good healthy snacks you’ll love and you won’t even miss that candy bar. We do recognize that is a bold promise to make!

At times when you’re losing energy fast, you need a quick fix. So, the best recommendation is to have good healthy snacks around all the time.

Just look at this wrap; it’s really more of a meal, but, you make a couple of these Veggie Spelt Tortilla wraps and slice them into hors d’oeuvres, wrap in foil, and store in the refrigerator.

What’s inside this tasty, good healthy snack? Veggies galore!


Spelt tortilla

Red bell pepper

Shredded carrots

1 tomato (I prefer an heirloom)

1/2 an avocado

1/4 slices of red onion

Few slices of cucumber

Lettuce: spinach, arugula, basil

How to make good healthy snacks:

Take a spelt tortilla and toast it lightly. If the spelt tortilla gets too crisp it will flake when you try to fold it. Layer the tortilla with the lettuce and veggies. Drizzle with light olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. Top with avocado slices and sprinkle on some sesame seeds.

On the go and need a good healthy snack that will satisfy your hunger pangs? Try making a green-fruit smoothie. It’s delicious made from fresh and frozen fruit but it tosses in a few veggies too. Start by keeping a stash of frozen fruit on hand. This can be a real lifesaver when you’re struggling to get through the day.

Smoothie recipe from Live Fit MagazineIngredients: play with the portion size, it really depends on your taste (how strong you want the flavor to be from a certain veggie/fruit), and how much you want to make and save to drink throughout the day. I don’t recommend keeping this type of drink longer than three days in the refrigerator. If you use a blender/emulsifier it gets pretty pulpy and then after a few days the flavor changes.

Frozen fruit: I like bananas, strawberries, pineapple, mangos, peaches, a few raspberries, blueberries, blackberries

Juice from 1/2 a lemon

1 cup fresh orange juice or 1 small uncooked beet

5 grape tomatoes

1 small apple

Few cubes of ice

Veggies: carrots, brussel sprouts, cucumbers, kale: just small portions–I promise it won’t taste gross!

How to Make it?

Simply blend it all together. Drink and enjoy!

Fresh Strawberry SorbetCraving something sweet.

First start by preparing and freezing some strawberries. Remove the greens and stems, put them on a cookie sheet and freeze. Once frozen, store them in a ziplock bag. Keep some in stock all the time for your smoothie or to whip up our delightful strawberry sorbet.
