Get a Skinny Waist and a Fat Wallet: New Book Shows You How

Ayla Skye launches her new book, The Eat From Home Diet. It promises to slim your waistline and fatten your wallet. Live Fit Magazine talks to Ayla about her new book, her elite training for the U.S. Olympics and why she is so passionate about teaching people to eat healthy.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to train for the Olympics? Ayla Skye trained relentlessly to represent the United States team until a shoulder injury crushed her dreams of competing in the modern pentathlon. Ultimately it lead to a career change and, soon, Skye was well on her way to fulfilling a new dream; teaching people how to cook nutritious meals using simple ingredients and very little time.

Ayla Skye, author The Eat From Home DietSkye’s the author of the new book, The Eat From Home Diet. Her website Quick&Fit.com is the beginning of what she hopes will be a return of the home-cooked meal and a way to help the world get healthy one delicious meal at a time.

Skye grew up helping her mother in the kitchen and savoring nutritious, home-cooked food.  But when she went off to college to study business finance, she was disgusted by the pre-packaged, on-the-go meals that her busy classmates scarfed down while studying.

Skye started teaching her curious friends how to save time and money while simultaneously saving their waistlines and bottoms from the infamous freshman 5, 10, or even 15 pounds.

Skye trained as much as eight hours a day to win a spot on the U.S. Olympic team. Until her should injury forced her out of an athletic dream but into a new career helping people learn to eat healthy. Ayla wrote The Eat From Home Diet to answer a need. “I saw very unhealthy people and I would be asked all the time, ‘What can I do to lose weight?’ or ‘I feel lousy and am taking lots of medicine; how can I get healthy like you?’,” says Skye.

Start with the foundation of home-cooked meals on a family dinner table, add a dash of maturity, a splash of sex appeal, and a pinch of desire to serve others, and you have Skye’s recipe for success.

Her book, The Eat From Home Diet, is filled with advice and helpful tips and tricks to transition into a healthier lifestyle. One of the themes of the book is the financial perks of home-cooked food. Confident that her food rivals healthier fast-food options such as the often pricy Subway, Skye explains, “I can make that same thing at home for two or three dollars and even more delicious.”

In the book, you’ll find several recipes that can be made on Skye’s go-to kitchen essentials: the George Forman grill, a crock-pot, and a microwave. And don’t worry about unfamiliar recipes with impossible to find ingredients. Skye, who’s favorite place to shop for healthy ingredients is Trader Joe’s, claims that she features meals people know and love, but with better quality ingredients.”

Skye is hoping to reach those who are desperate to lose weight. Her book is a valuable tool for anyone who’s frustrated with diet fads that haven’t worked.

While some may question her credibility, she admits that she is not a personal trainer nor a nutritionist on her website Quick&Fit.com. However, give her book a good study and you’ll see she knows her stuff.  Skye is a relatable role model for anyone eager to add some flavor to their diet and money to their wallet.

Skye is determined to show readers eating healthy can be done, even if you’re like Skye,  “I don’t have time to cook”. She knows fast-food has an edge, “It’s the convenience factor of going through the drive thru,” Skye explains.

But Skye believes her motto will help readers think twice before racing through the fast-food line, “When you eat at home, you’re in control of what you’re eating.”

While she reassures her readers that you don’t have to restrict yourself to a diet of broccoli, brown rice and chicken, she stands by the fact that, “80 percent of maintaining your health and losing weight is what you eat.” What if you could have a decadent cherry pie in less than 10 minutes without the guilt? It seems you really can have your pie and eat it too with the help of Ayla Skye and her book, The Eat From Home Diet.

Project Ethos Showcases San Diego Artists

Project Ethos Showcases San Diego Artists

The vision began more than six years ago and today, Project Ethos showcasesSan Diego artists as well as artists from all over the country at unique events that bring fashion, music, art and the community together in locations across the U.S.

Live Fit Magazine attended the San Diego artists event and this month we feature Project Ethos as our We LIVE Fit leader for its support of community excellence through Love, Inspiration, Vision, and Engagement.

“We have tonight a bunch of local bands,” said Brianne Bear, spokesperson for Project Ethos.

The one-night event in San Diego at the House of Blues in September also featured designers from the Art Institute of California–San Diego. The designers competed in a design challenge: vitaminwater zero “Flavor Fashionista Challenge”. The audience involvement was key–they were encouraged to vote via a text message during the event.

Elina Sheripova took home the grand prize valued at $3,000. “My vitaminwater zero flavor was Squeeze. Its sweet, yet sour taste was translated into the dress, a silk blend and chiffon [that I used to make]. I feel great about winning! I can’t believe it! Since everything on the dress was hand sewn I’m excited to have won a prize package including a new sewing machine,” said Sheripova.

The concept to bring an art gallery, concert, and fashion show together is helping create synergy and strong economic benefits for San Diego artists and artists around the nation.

“Right now I think it’s such a struggle with the way the economy is. First thing we want to do is just get their names out there,” said Bear.

“I grew up in a family that inspires creativity,” said San Diego artist, Dave Persue. He attended the event and showcased his work. He talked to Live Fit Magazine while working on a painting. Like so many San Diego artists, his work is his passion. “For me I don’t have any choice but to be an artist.”

“This is their opportunity to build a press kit for themselves. They’re getting their first media write-up sometimes,” said Bear.

Bear says that for many of these emerging San Diego artists, it’s a chance to connect with the media as well as key entertainment industry decision-makers.

That’s why designer Lauren Letizio of “leoluca” handbags attended the event with co-owner, Emma Lezak. The handbags are named after a Saint and a gangster. The ladies mix fun and sin for a perfect bag that reflects the spirit of human nature in a wildly fun, gorgeous leather bag.

The next Project Ethos event is scheduled for October 14th at the House of Blues, Sunset Strip in West Hollywood during Fashion Week.

Live Fit Magazine congratulates Project Ethos for its efforts to showcase San Diego artists and artists around the country.

“Bridesmaids” Film–Not Just A Chick Flick

“Bridesmaids” Film–Not Just A Chick Flick

Are you in the mood to sit in front of the TV for two hours giggling and laughing out loud every few minutes? Oh, and having your jaw on the ground for most of it? If that’s the case, you have to see Bridesmaids! I LOVED this movie!!! It was truly hysterically funny.

Bridesmaids is kind of the female version of The Hangover, in my opinion. If I had to pick which movie was better, I’m not sure I could. Very much like The Hangover, Bridesmaids is for both guys and girls–NOT a chick flick by any means! No sappy romance (although there were some cute, sentimental moments) and not a predictable storyline. Read More »

“The Help” Film Will Have You Laughing and Crying

Since the second I noticed the seven-foot movie poster display for The Help, (about three months ago at my local theater) I’ve been waiting with bated breath to see the movie adaptation of one of the best books I have ever read in my life.

I can say with conviction, The Help is in my top ten best-ever novels. So, out of curiosity, knowing full well that I’d probably like the movie, but that it would certainly pale in comparison to the book, I had an obsession to see Kathryn Stockett’s amazing work on the big screen. Read More »

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants–Chicago

Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants–Chicago

I don’t really know why I don’t go to Cooper’s Hawk more often! I was there the other night and realized that it is one of THE BEST restaurants on the North Shore. Now, for those who know me well, you’re probably thinking I’m saying this because my first date with my boyfriend was there, and yes, it does hold a special place in my heart for that reason. But honestly, Cooper’s Hawk is really, really a top-notch place in many ways.

The ambiance is great. It’s decor is cozy and comforting, yet it’s got style and it’s hip. The bar area is always fun, and the crowd tends to be a combination of locals and business travelers who are staying at one of the nearby hotels.

Let’s start with drinks. Cooper’s Hawk is a winery, meaning that all their wines are Cooper’s Hawk. They don’t carry any other labels. I’ve had reds and I’ve had whites and I can honestly say, I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad glass of wine there. The best part is, they are very reasonably priced. Glasses start at $6.25 and the most expensive is $12.00, but most of the wines run about $7.00 a glass.  They also have a full martini and sangria menu.

Let’s get to “the meat” (literally.) I think I’ve been to Cooper’s Hawk four times. Here are a few things I’ve had. A delicious Pistachio crusted grouper, Caprese flatbread, and my favorite thing of all, the Blackened Bleu Steak Salad. THE BEST!! Other things that look great are blackened bacon-wrapped sea scallops, chopped wedge salad, and pepperjack cheese with jalepeno bacon burger. Another really nice touch is that they give you this pretzel bread that is to die for!! But try not to eat too much of it because the food is so good.

I have to be honest, I’ve never had dessert at Cooper’s Hawk, but here’s what looks the best to me: Reese’s Ice Cream cookie and crumbled apple pie. They also have a wine and chocolates platter that includes three sweet wines, if that’s what you’re into.

Cooper’s Hawk has a children’s menu if you want to bring the kiddies. It’s only $5.99!

One last thing I want to mention. When you walk into Cooper’s Hawk (they have 8 locations in Chicago but I’m talking about the Wheeling location) there’s this really pretty tasting room that is also a gift store.  So, you can just go there to taste some wines and shop. They have lots of really cute wine and food related items that make great gifts. And while you’re there, you can get a few tastes and take home a bottle of something you like.

Cooper’s Hawk… Loving that place!

Editor’s Note: Cooper’s Hawk opened in 2005. They tout having one of the largest wine clubs in the country. They develop 12 to 15 blends exclusively for the wine club members.

Cooper’s Hawk has multiple locations and produces more than 125,000 cases of wine per year. See our business directory for their specific midwest locations. Video by Cooper’s Hawk.

Bigger Breasts Without Surgery? Try Breast Slapping

We were laughing out loud when someone suggested this story on bigger breasts without surgery. But we did a little digging, all in the name of research, and found out that the bigger breasts without surgery technique originated in Thailand. Apparently, a Thai beautician has clients who want bigger breasts without surgery, firmer buttocks, bosom, and face without plastic surgery. That’s certainly understandable–who wants to go under the knife?

Thai Breast Slapping for bigger breasts without surgeryWhile it makes sense it sure sounds, well, hokey, right? Not so says beautician, Khunying Tobnom Na Songkhla, owner of Ban Tobnom. However, she notes that her technique of breast slapping doesn’t work for everyone–”some breasts are too small to be enlarged,” she says, (at least through this non-invasive technique).

The treatment as reported in The Bangkok Post has been successfully practiced for more than two decades. It’s also used on the buttocks and face to firm those areas. The beautician claims its an age-old technique passed down from her heritage, sort of like foot massage. She claims not as many know about it because big breasts weren’t that important back then.

The bigger breasts without surgery technique is touted as safe, pain-free, and effective. See for yourself in this video. Then get the conversation rolling with your comments. Did we mention it’s government approved?
