Angela Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
I love being able to make people beautiful.
Phoebe Chongchua:
I’m Phoebe Chongchua. You’re watching Live Fit Magazine. Coming up, we’re getting you picture perfect for the races with some incredible styles from Studio Savvy that’s coming up on Live Fit Magazine.
Angela Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
The hat event is probably the biggest thing of race day.
Deena Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
This is a hat and there’s five categories and within the categories you get to do crazy, fun, outrageous. And this I call life because it’s full of life. It has all the flowers, the butterflies, the feathers.
Phoebe Chongchua:
The Delmar Race season runs from July through September, and it’s the happening hotspot for fashion, fun, and style. The ladies at Studio Savvy showcase their hair accessories and our Live Fit Magazine. Lucky Intern Kika gets a race ready makeover. I just love this part, especially because all of the color, I’m just drawn to it. Dina von Yolks is with me. She is the founder of Studio Savvy and you’re the creator of all of these magnificent hats and Hairpieces.
Deena Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
Yes, they’re called Savvy Topsy. And it came about by accident. We were having our grand opening and I had 22 pieces that I needed to come up with to embellish models and the staff. And so I went in my garage and started doing it myself, and it turned into a little savvy topsy.
Phoebe Chongchua:
I love it. Tell me about the most popular ones.
Deena Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
The most popular ones would be the Fascinators in London. It’s a hit with Kate. The princess started the younger crowd and becoming more with their hair, embellished with the pretty little classy dresses and having the total look from top to bottom. This is why I call them topsy. This one’s a headband, and then we’re going to go into a fascinator. There’s not a lot of a difference except for this is wider, gives more support. What I love about this is you can wear ’em both ways. You have two options. If someone wasn’t comfortable wearing a hat, they just can put one of these in and still be embellished like the rest of the crowd
Phoebe Chongchua:
Because I love to wear things, but sometimes a hat just gets in the way. Don’t you think it is hot? Especially on opening day because the track gets very warm. So having something like this is elegant.
Deena Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
What’s really hot with the hats right now is to have ’em asymmetrical. Some people can wear in the center. It’s all what looks good on you. And again, it’s not one set fashion. And that’s what I like about it. Just like our hem line, you’re not wearing one line, it’s long, it’s middle, it’s short, and it’s what looks good on you. You can do it either way. Pick the hat, then go get the dress. Get the dress, and then go pick the hat. But what I love about this is you have a hat, you have a fascinator, you have a topsy. The topsy. What’s really unique about it is you can take a hat that you already have that you’ve spent a pretty penny on, and you can place a topsy right on it. For example. You
Phoebe Chongchua:
Would love that.
Deena Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
Take that on over it. Or if you’re not a hat person, like you said earlier, and you feel complete and pretty and part of the crowd, you cough the hair. And right now I call it more of a style up. And then you place this in there and you still have that hat feel. And Phoebe, there’s one last look that I’d like to cover that makes it completely custom. We can do a style up on your hair and I can shape the hair into a hat by placing feathers into the style that we
Phoebe Chongchua:
Thank you so much. I think we’re going to be picture perfect for opening day. It’s going to be a lot of fun. We’re going to check back in to see how Kika is looking.
Angela Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
Here’s Kika’s edgy, hot mess up-style.
Makeup Artist:
So what we did today with Kika was did three things, which you can do at home. The first thing we did was we applied a white eyeliner to the waterline of the eye as opposed to a black liner. This will make the eye appear brighter and larger. The second thing that we did was we applied a lighter powder to the top of the cheekbone. It really gives the face a pop in a brightness. The third thing not to forget is your lip gloss. Apply it to the center of the lower lip in a gold or a shimmery shade. It’s very sexy and she looks great,
Phoebe Chongchua:
Kika. You look adorable. I absolutely love it. Angela, you’ve done a fabulous job. Thank you so much. Studio Savvy’s, perfect for opening day at the races or for that matter, any event that you need to get dolled up for.
Deena Von Yokes, Studio Savvy Salon:
Well, Phoebe, here’s your final touch for the races. To have a perfect day,
